Week in Review: 3rd Mar - 9th Mar

Monday

  • Woke up a bit later today. Milo was up a few times struggling with his cold.
  • Morning standup and then spent the morning trying to understand the implications of a one line change on the application. I think the only way I will really understand redux and redux thunk is if I build a demo project myself. No one else seems to understand it well either.
  • Couple of calls trying to get MRs over the line and then worked on an integration feature in the afternoon.
  • “Trivial” thrown around a lot lately.
  • Went for a much needed run to decompress.
  • Home and then Tash’s parents arrived. They brought dinner with them which was lovely.
  • Chatted and then went to bed.

Tuesday

  • Morning walk with Milo.
  • Cycled to work.
  • Had my end of year review with my manager. It was positive, but still hard to know what to make of it. I want more direction but I am told to decide on the direction I want to go in. I think I need to put pen to paper and write down a bit of a plan.
  • Went for a quick run after work and then cycled home.
  • Spent some time with Tash’s parents and then drove to James’ house for pancakes.
  • Made some legit savoury pancakes with cheese, ham and various condements.
  • Home and then bed.

Wednesday

  • Took Milo for a longer walk this morning. Weather still beautiful.
  • Had breakfast and then cycled to work.
  • Bugfixing again today getting ready for the release tomorrow.
  • Cycled home, said hi to the fam and then rode with Hugh on Zwift.
  • Had dinner then wound down for the evening with Tash and Milo.

Thursday

  • Spent a bit less time looking after Milo this morning as we had a release and wanted to be in early to help out.
  • Release went out fine, not issues.
  • Went for a pub lunch with Oli, Jon and Adam. I’ve noticed the last few times I’ve been with out with work collegues I end up being quite negative about work. I’d like to be more positive as you can always find something to be negative about.
  • Mostly wrapping up MRs.
  • Spoke to our director of Software about the upcoming team restructure. It was good to finally get an undestading of the “opportunities” that might be available. I tried to air my thoughts and be as direct as I could regarding the position that I feel I am in and where I would like to take my career. I feel like I keep hearing the right noises but still feel like I don’t have the backing from seniors.
  • Cycled home a bit later than usual.
  • Did a short workout in between holding Milo.
  • Tash and I had dinner and finished watching Black Doves. I thought the series was quite average, the plotline didn’t really thicken much I felt a lot of the secenes didn’t add much and were purely there for shock value.

Friday

  • Worked from home on Friday.
  • Spend the morning reviewing some changes that frustratinly dind’t work meaning I had to send them back. Finding it hard to find the balance between ensuring quality from contracors and keeping tickets progressing.
  • Spoke to Dave to get some advice on career progression. He also made the right noises but I felt like he wasn’t able to give me the concrete answers I was looking for. I feel like I put him in a bit of a tricky position but was a little dissapointed that I couldn’t take more away from the conversation.
  • Had lunch with Tash and her Mum whislt Milo slept in his high chair.
  • Spent the afternoon actually coding a new feature for once which felt amazing. I have full intention working on the FE myself and getting contractors to work on the API. It will prevent us from stepping on each others toes and will enable us to progress faster.
  • Went in the garden with Milo and then took him for a short walk.
  • Got home and rode on Zwift with Hugh. We did a longer low intensity ride which was nice for a change.
  • Mark and Sam arrived for the weekend and we all had curry together which was delicious.

Saturday

  • Looked after Milo for a couple of hours in the morning.
  • Had a quick snack and then went for a run. Managed 9km without much pain the in the knee which was good. Definitely feeling a bit fatigued which is a good sign that I’ve increase the volumen this week.
  • Had breakfast and then went for a walk with the family to enjoy the weather. We got a good frisbee session in.
  • Back home for lunch. Nadia’s godsun Freddie and partner Freya joined for lunch and then we all watched France vs Ireland. Not a good day to support the boys in green. Rest of the family all backing France too which didn’t help.
  • Went to buy an ice-cream and then went for a walk with Milo.
  • Watched the Scotland vs Wales game on cathup, also prety thrilling.
  • Had dinner and went to bed

Sunday

  • Took Milo for a few hours this morning. We have a pretty good morning routine now and hes taking a bottle much better.
  • Cleaned the kitchen and mopped the bathroom whilst Tash’s family cooked lunch.
  • Went to the circles to sit in the sun and throw the frisbee around.
  • Had lunch and then wathced the England vs Italy game. I was backing Italy but England were the better team today.
  • Chilled in the evening with the fam.
